Candidate comparison in 2012 North Carolina primary election
Questions 1-3 are from the North Carolina Family Policy Council Voter Guide at http://ncfamily.org/voterresources2012p.html.
- Should the State Constitution be amended to provide that: "Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State?"
- Should organizations that provide abortions be allowed to receive state funds?
- Should it be legal for human embryos to be used for research purposes?
- Do you support a personhood amendment to the NC constitution like the Colorado 2012 Right To Life Amendment (http://www.coloradorighttolife.org/2012-wording) protecting each human being whether he or she is inside or outside the womb?

In the Durham County Commissioner race, all candidates except Rickey Padgett oppose the NC Marriage Protection Amendment, and no candidates support defunding Planned Parenthood. Padgett's position is currently undeclared. If you vote for one candidate instead of five, that candidate has a greater chance of advancing to the general election.
Personhood note: In recent years the pro-life movement has placed increased emphasis on the personhood of all human beings. Personhood was a crucial issue in Roe v. Wade. Justice Harry Blackmun wrote, “If this suggestion of personhood is established, the appellant’s case, of course, collapses, for the fetus’ right to life would then be guaranteed specifically by the [14th] Amendment.”
